A dental bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is a dental restoration option used to replace one missing tooth or multiple missing teeth in the same area. Using abutment teeth as the anchor for the restoration, a bridge essentially ‘bridges’ or fills in the gap left behind from missing teeth, by placing an artificial tooth in the area where there is a gap. Shaped and coloured just like natural teeth, a bridge is extremely durable, strong, and aesthetically pleasing. Teeth adjacent to a gap are crowned to keep the bridge in place and stabilize your overall bite. Not only do bridges enhance your speaking and chewing abilities, but they also allow your bite to feel more balanced and healthier.
The porcelain material used to create a bridge is customized to your teeth’s natural shade, so it is very natural looking. Bridges are a semi-permanent restoration in that they can only be removed by your dentist once placed, and they normally last for many years.
